Quinta do Portal is a Portuguese independent family winery that has embraced with passion the concept of “Boutique Winery”. We are dedicated to the production of Douro wines, special category Port wines, as well as Muscatels and Olive Oil.
Our family has been producing Port Wine in the Pinhão river valley for more than 100 years, but its presence in the Douro Region is felt at least since 1477, when King D. Afonso V granted the Oliveira property, in Riba de Douro, to the noble D. Afonso de Mansilha.
With a vision of the future, we immediately bet on the creation of world-class Douro wines, being part of the first group of the new generation of Douro producers who, in good time, believed in the potential of Douro still wines.
At the helm of oenology and production is Paulo Coutinho, who has been with us since 1994. We have had the technical support of Pascal Chatonnet on Douro wines since 1992 and we were privileged to work with Jeremy Bull on Port wines at the turn of the century.
Quality has always been our motto, as attested to by the many national and international distinctions awarded to our wines and olive oils and to the various services provided by Quinta do Portal.
Our Quintas, located in the valley of the river Pinhão, in Cima-Corgo, are the guarantee of the quality of our wines. The vineyard area is 104 hectares, which varies between 190 and 600 meters of altitude, and covers practically all solar exposures.
